What is the AQUAMAN Open Water Swim Series and Swim/Run SeriesThe AQUAMAN Swim and Swim/Run Series is an opportunity for swimmers and triathletes of all ages and abilities to practice their open water swimming in a fun, competitive environment and at distances not previously offered at other venues. It is a perfect opportunity for triathletes to practice open water pacing and swimming in a mass start format with the bonus of an added 5K run . For masters and recreational swimmers, the AQUAMAN is a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself in a new, exciting, and unchlorinated environment!
AQUAMAN Swim and Swim/Run Series 2009 Dates:
Race 1: Tuesday, June 30th
Race 2: Tuesday, July 7th
Race 3: Tuesday, July 14th
Race 4: Tuesday, July 21st
Race 5: Tuesday, July 28th
Race 6: Tuesday, August 4th (AWARDS CEREMONY)
Race Times:
Check – In: 5:15 – 6:00
Warm-up: 5:45 pm
1 mile swim-5k run: 6:15 pm
½ mile swim-5k run: 6:18 pm
½, 1, 1½, 2 mile swim: 6:21 pm
Race Location
All races will be held at the Smoky Hill Beach (NEW for ’09) at Cherry Creek Reservoir. All competitors will receive a FREE entry into the park. See the course map for more information and directions.
Race Distances
AQUAMAN Swim Series
** Westuits WILL be allowed for these events with no penalty
Sprint Distance = ½ mile swim
Olympic Distance = 1 mile swim
Alcatraz Distance = 1½ mile swim
AQUAMAN Distance = 2 mile swim
AQUAMAN Swim/Run Series
** Westuits WILL be allowed for these eventswith no penalty
Short Course = ½ mile swim & 5k run
The Long Course = 1 mile swim & 5k Run
Series Awards
Swimmers must complete a minimum of four races to be eligible for series prizes. Awards will be given based on a point system (New for ’09). Points will be awarded to all finishers in each event by the following amounts; 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6,5 4, 3, 2, 1. All athletes that finish will receive one point. Awards will be given to competitors with the highest pint total. If more than 4 races completed, your best 4 standings will be used. For example, if the athlete competes in 6 races, their best 4 point scores will be added up and compared to other racers. The more times you race, the more opportunity to post higher points.
To be eligible for awards, athletes must compete in the same distance for a minimum of 4 races. Top 3 individuals male and females in each category will receive awards.
Cost for Swim Series
Each race includes reduced entry into park, competitive environment, and post race food & drink provided by JIMMY JOHNS sub shop. The multi-race packs allow you to save money and still choose the dates and distances that you would like to race.
